If I told three different people to reach their arms overhead, chances are they’d all get their arms up there. But chances are also that everyone’s ribs, shoulders, and spine would be doing different things to get there.
Most coaches and systems teach you exercises and movement patterns, but they spend very little time on how you do them. And this is why some people can follow the coach’s cues without any pain while others feel like they’re fighting their body. Even coaches that focus on “good form” are just scratching the surface of how the body works as a unit to achieve whatever the exercise is.
This might not sound like a huge deal since most coaches don’t focus on this kind of thing, but these are precisely the types of compensation patterns that lead to compression, pain, and injury over time.
